Sydney Webster asked Rick Riordan:

Riding pegasi seems much easier than riding horses, was there a backstory to why none of the "riding rules" applied? I would enjoy Percy attempting to ride a horse and discovering it is a completely different ball game LOL

Rick Riordan This is probably because I know literally nothing about riding horses, as you can tell. On the other hand, pegasi are sentient and able to talk to Percy, so maybe they try to take it easy on him. I don't know. And the whole physics problem of wings that can hold up a horse . . . that doesn't make much sense either. I guess we just have to suspend disbelief.
