Goodreads asked C.S. Marks:

How do you get inspired to write?

C.S. Marks My Dad gets the credit for this one. He was a Professor of literature, and he raised me on the classics. He encouraged me to love words, and to use them effectively. Dad never wrote fiction, but he was a wonderful "critique partner." I remember once, when I was a teenager, I had penned a particularly thrilling battle scene (or, so I thought). Exclamation points everywhere. I mean, everywhere. Dad circled them with a red pencil, adding the comment: "nothing's THAT exciting."

I have always written for enjoyment, but when we lost Dad to a sudden, unexpected event, I threw myself into it. I think it was a way to "fill the hole" he left behind. I wish he could have seen the result...I know he would have been proud of what I have created. And it's very lean on exclamation points. :-)
