What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Guy E. Estes Perseverance is a big deal. There are many, many forces in the writing world that tell you to quit. It's tough to keep going in the face of that, but if you're going to write you must keep going. The other thing is being able to take criticism. All of us have room for improvement. Criticism, even when diplomatically given, isn't fun, but it's very, very necessary. I see it as inoculation - getting it is an uncomfortable process, but it beats the alternative.
