Elizabeth Wein I actually started with Maddie's story, but the novel "took off" when I got the idea of having Julie tell Maddie's story for her. And yes, assuming by "truth" you mean the end of the story, I *did* know that from the beginning. The challenge was then to construct a friendship between the two characters that would make the whole story believable - I guess what I *didn't* know before I started was that my "war" story was going to turn into a "friendship" story!

The Winter Prince is my favorite book and I love the whole series in general. They were written quite awhile ago now. Do you ever still think about those characters and miss their journeys?

Hello! I love your books! I was wondering what happened to Ityopis Anbessa? When Sofya and Telemakos talked about who might be the emperor's heir, she said her brothers were dead, sequestered, ruling Himyar or in Britain. But the last I heard, Ityopis was free, in Askum and didn't seem useless or dangerous, so now I wonder if he died or moved to another country or something. (I hope he didn't die, I really liked him!)
