As a former writing program director, how essential do you think the MFA is to landing great agent for a memoir? A journalist of 15 years, I did a nonfiction M.A. later in life to workshop memoir. Considering going on. Thoughts?

Frances Mayes This I partly answered earlier. But if you already have an MA, I'd go on only if you found that process helpful to your memoir. Finding an agent is not easy. I suggest looking in the acknowledgment pages of books you love and that you find compatible with your style. The authors will thank their agents there and you can look them up and send a good sample of your work.

Under the Tuscan Sun ( the book) was so much better than the movie. It's been a while so I don't remember my exact complaint but I don't think the movie captured her spirit like you portrayed her. I LOVED the book and it made me want to be Italian :-)
