Goodreads asked M.J. Pankey:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

M.J. Pankey Don't be afraid of the first draft. It's going to be a mess. It's going to be imperfect. The first draft is YOU the writer figuring out everything in your head that's trying to get out.
Just like with 10 people speaking to you at once, all ten of those ideas are not going to come out right the first time, you're going to have to go back and correct things as you work through it.
Don't be afraid of it. Just write that first draft, tweak as you go, or don't, write a scene out of sequence, bullet point out places where you don't feel like writing, find the rhythm that works for you and just keep going.
