Elizabeth H. asked Garrick Jones:

Hi, I asked this in my review of Farewell, My Boy, but I thought I'd reach out directly to you. Is Mark Harris a historical character? I looked up many of your characters (and music!) and found they were real, but I could not determine if Harris was. Just curious. You paint him so negatively, I wonder if you based him on a real person and changed the name as a result. Thanks! Elizabeth

Garrick Jones Elizabeth,
I did post a note on your review. Mark Harris is one of the few invented historical characters in the story. However, he is based on my first boss in the UK who was entitled, lazy and whose father was a baronet. He was unpleasant, to say the least, eventually jailed for embezzlement, but refusing to accept what he'd done was wrong because he thought he deserved more money, money that was not his.
