Cassie Beebe There is no answer to this question. It's just a poorly written book. The fact that the narration actually says "there's only one reason that painting would have been put back on the wall -- because this guy is Adrienne's ex!" is so crazy. It makes zero sense, especially if he's trying to hide from the people in the house.
