What was your inspiration for The X-Troop? And what was your favorite part about writing it?

Clay Davis I was looking at some U.S. Army uniforms at an American Civil War re-enactment in Arizona and noticed that some of the uniforms had no insignia saying what unit they were in. I remembered that some current day U.S. Special Forces do not have insignia so I thought what if the U.S. created its own Special Force to fight terrorists in the late 1870's. My favorite part about writing is doing research to learn more the period in which I am writing.
