Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Mhairead MacLeod The main inspirations for 'A Hospital in the Clouds' were two historical women whom I combined and reimagined to create my own character, Anna. One was a Scottish nurse who despite the male-dominated health profession of her time, sought to establish her own hospital in the tropical north of Australia in the 1920s. The other was a woman who belonged to a small group of suffragettes who risked their lives to make a powerful protest for women's rights in Edinburgh.

I wanted to reclaim the vitality and courage of these women, who represent unsung pioneers of the women's movement and whose experience still resonates today.
