When you wrote Lessons in Chemistry were you inspired in part about the sexism female scientists had to go through at M.I.T.?

I wasn't because I wasn't aware of it! I only became aware when I reviewed Kate Zernike's incredible book, The Exceptions, which was just published a few days ago. I loved the book and think it's an important read for anyone who wants to understand how tough this battle for equity is.

Your book says what I believe with so much more eloquence, so beautifully thought out & executed. Thank you for such a rare, nuanced, exquisitely imagined book. I love the name of your dog, Bonnie. And really liked Six-Thirty and so happy you let him stay!! I also very much loved your novel- Lessons in Chemistry and would like to read more of your books past and present. Can you give me names of any of them so I may get them? My daughter was born in 1960 and eventually graduated with a degree in chemistry--so I can relate along with your story. Keep up the great work .

I guess I have to add my comment separately…but it’s worth it! I had an incredible mutt named 67! You are the very first person I have heard of that named their dog a number as well! I adopted him from the pound in 1997 during my first month away at college and he was with me until 2010. I’m interested to know the story behind you naming your pup 99? That is, if you’re willing to share!
