Goodreads asked Jo Maeder:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jo Maeder Think Airplane Disaster Movie. They will never go away because they take place in a confined area and within a limited time. The plane can only stay aloft for so long before it runs out of fuel (or the bomb planted on it goes off). Those two elements greatly enhance tension, which hooks a reader. Unless you are a very experienced writer, try narrowing your first book down to the shortest time and the least moving around geographically. With a memoir, take the most dramatic episode in your life and weave in back story.
