Listen to your heart! If you think that your book is good, go for it. If required self publish it, but if you dont have a really good peer group then you will have to work really hard to make yourself noticed, there are too many writers, amongst them too many are legends... you know what i mean!
Your friends, peers are the people who usually buy and review your works in the initial stage, the more the better. But never regret your decision. No legendary writer wrote only best-sellers, they had written too many stories ignored by readers when they were alive, they just got noticed after they died. So hold your head high and dive and give it your best shot!
