I was initially intrigued by the author's writing style and the many questions raised by the opening of the story. The more I read, however, the more tiresome and incoherent I found the novel. I forced myself to read the whole thing, only to be disappointed at the minimal payoff. I haven't a clue as to why this novel received so many positive newspaper reviews and was even adapted for the screen. From what I've read, the movie is more interesting than the book.

No. Not me. I absolutely love it. I love all the Michel Faber I have read - I also know the area, so it has special interest to me.

Well I struggled to for a while, then read through it. Some things just aren't logical. I won't spoil it here but I know what you mean.
Marlene
Yes, I got midway through and lost interest. Still yet to finish it off.

Got half way through, but I am not going to finish reading this book.

I've both read the book and seen the film several times, and recently listened to the audiobook. To the person that raised the question, this is one of those rare cases where I'm very glad I saw the film first before reading the book. They're both deeply dark and difficult and humourous at times… and Glazer goes in a different direction, and can be at times breathtakingly cinematic. Although there's a great deal more depth of character(s) and plot spelled out in the book, (if you stick with it) they are both exemplary works of their respective art forms. Like all Fabers writing the more time I spend with it, the more I have enjoyed it.

I saw the film and thought it was intriguing at first but went nowhere. It certainly didn't deserve all the raves I've read...I really don't know what that's about. I thought I'd try the book to see if there was something that didn't make it to the screen. But it seems not.
