Does Lord Ashcombe have anything in his eye socket? Could he have somehow not lost the eye and is just blind in it? Or he did lose it and it’s an empty socket, or he lost it and he’s got something in the socket like a fake eye?

Kevin Sands He still has his eye—when Christopher says it's gone, he's speaking metaphorically; he knows enough about anatomy to see the eye's been injured beyond repair. And indeed, though it's still there, it's damaged enough that Lord Ashcombe can't see details with it anymore, just shades of light. He wears the patch because light causes pain; the brighter the light, the more painful it is.
