Goodreads asked R.A. Winter:

How do you get inspired to write?

R.A. Winter I write about Native Americans, in a contemporary setting. Years ago, after my Uncle died, my cousin contacted me. Her great grandmother and grandmother had both spent hours collecting their Sioux history on reel to reel. All of the tapes were lost. Years of history are missing.
My mother was sent to an orphanage at a young age. She knew who her family was, but what would happen if you didn't?
What if all of your life you never knew who you were? How would that impact you later in life?
These ideas gave birth to Grandfather. A main character in my books. He knows he's a Native American, but doesn't know where he came from. His first memories are of the orphanage. He needs family. He needs Native American heritage to live on, but how?
