Well, Lachlan Mackay was the first character that came to me when I decided to write romance novels. I knew he'd be a warrior of some kind and an emotionally wounded character. I thought he'd be a vampire killed and turned at the battle of Culloden, but he rebelled at the idea in my head. So, he became a modern-day special forces hero (British SAS) instead.
