Do these books need to be read in order? I haven't read any Janet Evanovich's books yet, but this one was recommended to me.

but really, any of the books could be picked up and enjoyed in any order. you could totally start with this one, go to 1 and pick up any of the other books. There's not a lot of character arc changes between the books. 26 & 27 are the only two that follow 2 stories within the same major plot line. (that pick up from the last few lines of 25. Not quite a cliffhanger but the plot line in which 26 & 27 are based on. (less)
