Goodreads asked Robert C. Murray:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Robert C. Murray You're only aspiring until you start writing, so get to it already! Don't worry about your first draft being awful. Everyone's first draft is awful. Never show anyone your first draft. Always revise at least once before you show it to anyone, and you should show it to someone. Find that someone to be your editor, or your mentor, or just your sounding board. Writing in a vacuum is all very well and good, but even the greatest writers have editors to tell them when they have crawled too far up their own ego.
