Elizabeth Pollock My best answer, though, is not given a specific date in the story; it is set in the future from the world we know and based on the lives we live in th…moreMy best answer, though, is not given a specific date in the story; it is set in the future from the world we know and based on the lives we live in the present, same functions, lifestyles, and pop-culture and literary references from our world as a backdrop to what it used to be by the time the book begins a few years after the changes were made in government system in hopes to change the world for the better with the promise to eliminate all that could be the reason or barriers for what made out world broken and divided. It obviously became the opposite of what the people were lead to hope in, and though I don't know how far into the future the author thought would be the story's foundation. Still, based on the world when the first book came out before many things in our own world took a turn, I will say back in the early 2010s as an example of what the world could be like in a dystopian world in whatever future there could be.
