Judith SPOILER: First, this was not a murder mystery...there was a death, but no murder, investigation, or clues, just conjecture without evidence & a boring trial until it was ruled accidental at the last minute. Maya's possessiveness & lack of boundaries with Asher clued me in that she was actually in love with him...but seriously, I found all the teen angst/sexuality so boring in a (supposedly) adult novel, & Maya came off as a psychopath.
Amy Ingalls I also thought it would be Dirk or Maya, but Dirk seemed too obvious, and there were little flashes where Maya reacted a certain way when Asher and Lily were around. I could tell she was in love with him.
Gina I figured it was either Dirk or Maya, but it seemed like they were trying to make us think it was Dirk too obviously. They also kept blowing off the fact that Maya probably really did love Asher and not see him as a friend, which is not how teenage girls' minds work!!!

Lisa When Maya was mentioned as couldn't stop crying and her moms took her home I knew there was something weird. I suspected either an argument or that Lily's dad had shown up and Maya saw something.
She wasn't cruel, she was a young teen who ran away and her moms assumed she was overwrought so they didn't let her process or talk.
Amy Maya had been his long time companion and hecwas a popular boy. Suddenly a new girl is on the scene and she becomes a 3rd wheel. Interestingly, she too was missing a father but we were to assume she was quite happy missing nothing. No one gave her a chance to say what she felt as she constantly referred to her 2 moms.
Normandy Process of elimination led me to Maya. In a murder mystery, eliminate the too obvious suspects-the two abusive fathers. Dirk, the hockey jock, was a possibility but he played just a minor role in the novel. That left Maya.
