What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

C.R. Clarke Be honest with yourself. Attain the ability to distance yourself from what you've written, then revisit it with an eye able to criticise, cut, embellish what's good, and edit what remains to be the best story it can be without the need for pointless clutter, and word-count-chasing padding, even of you're proud of the writing and think it's beautiful to read, if it extraneous, remove it... Trust me, I know how hard that can be.
