As Hoover wrote in the acknowledgments, she was not even planning on making a sequel for It Ends With Us, which was meant to be a standalone. Still, when she realized her readers wanted a happy ending for Lily and Atlas to see them through, she made this a duology. It was a happy, spontaneous decision, and sadly it does not include any more books, but a great story that allows us to dream within it with enough room to personalize and romanticize it. However, it is finished in terms of what we get to see in their lives. (less)
