Goodreads asked June N. Foster:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

June N. Foster I've worked in the yachtie industry as a deckhand and stewardess for many years. You may have seen me on Below Deck, Season 4 and recognize the saying: "June, June, Hannah" - which I still laugh about today! I love the tranquility and beauty of the ocean and wanted to write Lulu and Malek Sail Off to Sea to celebrate the beauty above and below the water. While at sea, there were many eco / pollution issues and we wanted to gently introduce young readers to how we can help to keep our oceans and lands clean - so there are a few pages that add this element. Sea adventures are amazing, so it was important that the story was fun, colorful, and full of laughs as well. Our illustrator Gill Guile is truly gifted. Her vibrant colors, combined with the character's expressions are priceless. My co-author Rob Sheer is the founder and CEO of Comfort Cases providing backpacks full of love and necessities to thousands of foster children. He loves the sea as well and together we were inspired to write this story for children. For each book purchased, Rob and I donate one book to Comfort Cases.
