What is wrong with Jodi Picoult? I used to love her but will never read another book of hers after only reading half of Mad Money.

Roberta Garrity Something I give myself permission to do is simply stop reading a book that does not hook me in.
Something I don't do is assume there's something wrong with the author.
Not every one of Picoult's books have resonated with me, but this one surely did. The co-writing between the two (there ARE two, ya know) is seamless, and I learned so very much about what it means to be transgender, as well as what it means to be a beekeeper.
Renee Anderson There is nothing wrong with Jodi Picoult or Jennifer Finney Boylan! They have written a beautiful novel for our times. As you read this book let yourself step inside each character and see the world from their point of view. Even the bees have a point of view of their place in their world. And for goodness sake finish the book!
Susan One thing always happens when you read a Jodi Picoult. You learn something and that something is usually about a social issue of our times. I liked this book but wish there would have been as much about the bees in it as there was about Lily. I loved Lily but felt her story went on too long. Instead of feeling educated and enlightened on the subject matter, by the end of the book I felt like the subject matter was being crammed down my throat. It was still a beautiful story.
Barbara Flesch I think a better question would be what's wrong with you...
Sandra I actually felt this book was a throwback to the way she used to write. I loved the backstory and the procedural legal drama as well. I haven't like her newer stuff as much because I felt it was blah. This was good as it held my attention.
Jean Maybe the fault is that you don't like to face the realities of life and have lived a sheltered and very conservative one where you are afraid of any view that differs from your own?
Stacy Excellent answer, Ann!
Laurie Berkowitz After reading some of these reviews, I didn't expect to finish this book. But it sure wasn't because of the content. I appreciated all the learning I did about variations of genders, trans people, and all the other subtleties. It wasn't their best book, quality-wise, but it's so important to educate ourselves so we can be a kinder, more understanding and accepting world!
Deborah Did you decide this before or after the big reveal?
Mark Mindel Well it's MAD HONEY....and it was one of the best books I've ever read. Very enlightening as far as trans and cis gender. I highly recommend it.
Pam Monheimer Cathleen, you might consider opening your heart and mind and gain a bit of compassion.
ejs I think you need to check your soul for empathy. BTW, writers are not writing for YOU. Reading has always been about finding what you, personally, what to read about. Why did you chose this book? Didn't you bother to read the info contained in the cover about this story? Being personally critical of an author because you are closed minded is a bit childish.
Yoga Lover Love her storytelling. However, in her attempt to bring light to issues, it seems there is always a bit of preaching to it. Like this is what we should be thinking/feeling, instead of deciding for ourselves.

I would prefer that the story speak for itself and the reader decide.
Deb Charlesworth Just finished reading this and I really enjoyed it. As the mother of someone who is transgender, I found it authentic and tender.
Peggy Nothing is wrong with Jodi Picoult…and it’s Mad HONEY, not Money. It’s a topic I thought was handled beautifully…
Lisa Kulick Unfortunately there are always haters. Open your eyes and heart and learn, it may make you feel better about yourself.
Jennifer Simmons I think you are missing the point. Keep reading . It is very timely and educates the soul
Caroline Cathleen, I, too, used to love her books, my only criticism having been the unsatisfying endings in many of them. Jodi P's last few books are on a decidedly divergent path from what I'm able to tolerate as a reader.
Judith I agree...Picoult's not afraid of issues, but her last few books have disappointed, & this one was full of worn out tropes & whining characters that didn't strike an emotional chord with me. Teen angst, abusive spouse, gender cruelty, nothing beautiful in that. (Read "This Is How It Always Is" by Laurie Frankel, if you want a much better novel about being trans.)
Kenya Nobody is forcing you to read her books. Have fun in your echo chamber babe.
Bella (Kiki) Did you actually read the book? It's MAD HONEY.
Aparna You need to open your mind! This is such a beautiful book! Appreciate the point if view of each character in the book even bees!
Debbie This was probably my favorite book she has written. I was enthralled from the start. What were your issues with it? I didn’t love the end, but loved everything else and as always, learned so much.
Ann I agree this book book message was crammed down my throat.
Allison A Kopakowski Not worth the paper it printed on. Garbage
Bonnie Just posted my review on what I read. I had sworn off of her books years ago but the beekeeping drew me in. It wasn't enough to keep me there. I truly disliked that mother/beekeeper.
Mrs. Read It didn’t even take me half …. A real disappointment .
Tina Smith I agreed with you only made it half way through. I remembered why I haven’t read anything of hers in years.
Raina Doorasamy As a huge Jodi Picoult fan growing up. I am very well aware that she writes deep, well researched and sometimes controversial stories and although she has written many atheist characters in the past I found none as offensive as Lily and her list on 5 things about the bible. I find it downright disrespectful to even think of writing 'In spite of how much garbage there is in the bible'. Like how do you expect people who are religious to continue reading and actually enjoy the story? That was distasteful. A huge no from me.
Cheryl Sharpley Same! Very disappointed!
