Josianne Fitzgerald
No. Not appropriate. There's lots of graphic depictions of abuse. I'm 50 and I found it hard at times. Heck, it was hard ALL the time, but Precious's voice is so real and her desire for an education is so strong, it overcomes it the abuse, much like Precious does.
Tandy
Rape can happen to anyone, at any age. Yes, it's graphic and it's going to evoke emotions. If you are going to read this along with your child, use this book to open up discussion and talk about what is happening in her life. Her story is going to be similar to others out there. No need to sugar coat, or hold the truth of the horror there are in some humans.
Destiny
From what I have read of it I can honestly say that it depends on what you feel best for your children/relative (whoever you're going to present it to). If you feel like 13-14 is mature enough then go for it. It is quite explicit material, but hell most 13-14 year olds read worse things on the internet or discuss worse in the hallways of schools.
Victoria
Far too disturbing for that age
Robbie
I think it is too graphic for 13-14. This book is geared more towards 18+ in my opinion.
