I am really enjoying the Paper Magician series - what was your inspiration for the story? And how did you come up with such whimsical names? Do you have any suggestions to a hopeful (budding?) future author? :)
Charlie N. Holmberg
I remember always wanting to have a character who could make paper cranes come to life. I pictured him (later to become Emery Thane) as a side character to another story, but later just made that the story's main focus. :)
I keep a list of names I like. Sometimes they're ones that pop into my head (Such as taking the flower, Peony, and changing one of the letters), sometimes they're captcha codes! When I start a new story I browse through the list. (Aviosky I got from a man named Abe Yospe. When I first head his name, I thought they said "Aviosky.")
As for "budding" authors, ask a lot of "what if" questions and write down any ideas you get, big or small. All stories stem from little seeds! :D

Think it would be possible to write more from the world of followed by Frost...perhaps a book with Death as the MC? Btw, GREAT choice for Angela Dawe as the narrator for FBF!! She is such a great narrator and does the most sincere sounding (and sexiest) male voices as well as really diverse female voices! I just love listening to her and coupled with a great story like FBF it was so much fun! so...Death's story?

I just finished the entire Paper Magician series, Magic Bitter Magic Sweet, and Followed by Frost (my favorite) since the new year. Followed by Frost was my favorite by far. I read somewhere that you studied under Brandon Sanderson, who creates the most in depth worlds so it is no wonder I loved all of yours so much. What was it like studying under him? I have so many questions!

?I just noticed that The Paper Magician is going to be translated to spanish and I got so exited about it I scared my partner that was seated beside me. I already read the books and I loved them and I'm totally going to buy them in spanish when they arrive to my country. I'm so happy that your books are going to reach more people because the stories are so beautiful and sweet. Congrats! ♥
