Necessary, no, but recommended. Whilst this book would be enjoyable, knowing the backgrounds of the characters and some of the backstory helps the flow of the book in my opinion.
Margaret Duquette
I think it is very important to read these in order. There is a lot of character development and plots that continue between the books. Many of the most memorable moments in this book, either happy or sad, are made so because you already know the characters well.
Marilee
While there are pleasures in this book for a newbie to the series, I think it would be more enjoyable and less confusing to read the books in order, for character development purposes. Osman assumes readers have some familiarity with the characters and backstory and doesn't waste much time "reminding" us what transpired before. Yes, there's a bit of recap here and there [done smoothly], but since too much would weigh down the narrative, I appreciated not being burdened.
Debra Maranjian
Not necessary but I definitely would recommend so you learn more about the characters,
Helen Pakpahan
Yes. Goodreads makes people write a longer response which is not necessary.
Nancy Nash Keefer
Necessary? No, Osman is a talented author whose work will sing to most folks who enjoy this genre anyway.
Recommended? Yes, because knowing the characters a bit helps bring the emotions to the front when things happen.
Worth your time. Oh, indeed. Very.
