At the beginning of the book Bruno is surprised that J.J. does not know about the bullet that he questions Bruno about. Then he says it is because J.J. is younger. Am I misreading this or am I confused because I thought from previous books that J.J. was close to retirement age?

Andrea Montague Bruno mentions that because there is no draft anymore, young men don't enter the army. But J.J. didn't enter the army because the went to college instead and (I guess) got an exemption.
Kathy J. J. seems to be about 60. With a younger policeman, and a vet as well, close by gave J. J. a reason to consult with Bruno. I suspect Walker was contrasting Bruno and J. J. once again.
