Goodreads asked Lee Tobin McClain:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Lee Tobin McClain My advice is that you READ and WRITE. A lot! You have to know your genre very well, as well as avid readers know it, which means you need to be reading on the level of a book a week for a long time. And you need to practice getting the words down on paper, figuring out story lines, building characters people will love. A writing program, like the one I teach in at Seton Hill University, can help, but you still have to do a lot of work on your own. Fortunately, if you're meant to be a writer, both reading and writing are great fun for you!
