Or if you wanted, you could start reading it by yourself and if you find something that makes you uncomfortable you can talk about it with an adult you trust. You could also just put the book down. There is no shame in not finishing a book. Yes there is sex, and yes, there is some violence (not the bloody kind), but there are also many lessons to be learned from this book. (less)
