Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Blythe Brandenburg My upcoming book, the first The Sundered Queen, first of The Oracle Trilogy, was inspired by two things. First, I had run across the historical tidbit that conquering kings would require hostages from important families in new territory to ensure the good behavior of their relatives. The second inspiration came from my kids, who after learning about mammoths and other Ice Age megafauna, then reading bout Hannibal bringing elephants over the Alps in his war against Rome, asked why Hannibal just didn't bring mammoths over the Alps, since they would do much better in the snow. These together created the basic scenario of the book, although I added magic, of course.
