Hi, I really enjoyed your book! It was one of my first incursions in Science Fiction literature, and as such it proved to be an excellent choice to start folling more into the SF novels out there. I wanted to ask: which other books or media inspired you to create The Martian? Can you suggest a few "follow-up" reading for newbies in this area? :)

I definitely recommend Asimov's "I, Robot" if you haven't read it. Also I'd recommend "Red Planet" and "Have Spacesuit, Will Travel" by Heinlein. Also "Rendezvous with Rama" by Clarke (but not any of the sequels).

I've read you intend no sequel to the Martian, I think that is really smart. Do you intend to stage a story on the Moon or Mars? I can't see a writer of your promise not going forward. How concerned are you that the next book be bigger, better to meet the increased expectations?
