A Goodreads user asked Andy Weir:

Who was the most interesting person you had to/chose to consult with regarding the creation of the book, and why?

Andy Weir I did all my research online. I didn't have any connections in aerospace until after The Martian came out. So I don't have any cool stories about working with people in that arena.

After the book came out, I'd say my favorite experience was getting the pull quote from Commander Chris Hadfield (former commander of ISS) praising the book. That was a huge ego boost for me. :)
