Elizabeth George My very first attempt at a crime novel was a disaster and my opinion of its disastrous nature grew with every passing year. My first published book was quite simple compared to my other novels as I continued to publish. I don't think it was harmed by the simplicity of the story, though. I would ease up on some of my fancy-pants vocabulary if I were to revisit it.
