The Astrid books combine my love of space with my background as an audiologist! With this series, I want to help normalize the fact that kids who are deaf/hard-of-hearing can and do have dreams and goals unrelated to their hearing difference. While Astrid's hearing aids are definitely a part of her life, they're not what her life is about. Her life is about her love for STEM, together with having a loving family and good friends.
As for the idea generally, I have to credit my agent, Carrie. She was the one who suggested I write an original chapter book series... and here we are!
