A Goodreads user
asked:
Is it as scary as the movie? The movie was a little scary and I 'm not in the mood of any Stephen King right now.

This book blows the movie "out dah window!" It is definitely written for a more intelligent audience, especially Crichton's explanation of the "Chaos Theory" and it's use in creating the, er, "dinosaurs..."
The book depicts the characters completely different than the movie does, in terms of their importance, personalities, relationships to the overall story and each other, etc. Actually, once you begin reading it, you may not be able to put it down literally - I know I couldn't...

well the simple answer is like with all books thats had movies made after them is that the book is always better and this book is more crazy and intense

If you found the movie scary, you will be terrified of this book. It has a lot more detailed gore and plenty more scenes with plenty more dinosaurs. the suspense and thrill is so good though.
I have yet to read anything by Stephen King though, so I can't make a comparison there.

Its deffo not on a stephen king level of scary. You should be fine :-)

Now, to answer this very question, It depends. You want to see Mr. Nedry hang out with a "visitor", I don't think so. Other cases though, you should be fine. Just do what I did when the velociraptors show up in the book; close your eyes, curl up in a ball, and pray that nobody gets eaten. XD
Ps. Be prepared for some hard-core language, kids.

i read this book when i was 11 and it didn't scare me at all except some of the descriptions of the deaths were kinda gruesome and it grossed me out but again, i was 11. there's a lot of cussing and i know some people don't like that. i remember really enjoying this book and it is kind of confusing with all the scientific stuff but i was really young when i read it and i wasn't super confused so an adult reading this shouldn't be that confused by it.
hope tis helps:)

Well reading it myself I didn't think it was anywhere close to as scary as Stephen King if that's what you want I say it's more science fiction than horror or thriller if you don't like some gory text and a LOT of shooting and blood
Mark Smith
The movie had far more of the same kind of action than the book. Numerous times it describes in gory detail how a few people die.

I don't find the book scary at all, but the movie scares me. I think it depends on your fear tolerance. Ex. I can read books about killer animals all day and not be scared, but insert a creepy killing person and it's a whole different story.
