I think that this book would be a little bit mature for a 12-year-old considering that it does have some descriptive violence and mature themes (Drugs, rape, sex). That being said, everyone has different preferences and while it may be slightly too mature for most 12-year-olds, it is defiantly a good read regardless of what age you are. In general, I would rate this novel 13+. Hope this helps!
