Goodreads asked Leisl Leighton:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Leisl Leighton I don't get writer's block. I think it partially comes about because writers expect for perfection to flow out and onto the page, where the reality is it's more like word vomit in the first draft. I don't expect perfection when I write and I don't sit for long periods trying to find the right word or phrase to express what I want. If I can't find it quickly, I highlight and move on. Editing is where getting it right needs to happen, and given my brain is working differently when editing, it's more likely I will find what I need to make it work - and if I don't, that's where a good editor and Beta readers come in to help you get it right.
