I find secondary characters fascinating. Do you have a favorite secondary character in this book? One that has special meaning or popped up unexpectedly or maybe was hard to write?

John Grisham In Strawberry Moon, the condemned man has an unexpected visitor at the eleventh hour. She is an older lady who has been his pen pal for many years and she sent him almost 1000 used paperbacks, which he has on display in his cramped little cell. Miss Iris is her name and she was a pleasant surprise as I wrote the story.

I know the story of how you came to start writing in response to that one particularly nasty case, but how did you know you could write? Did you ever take any writing classes or have any previous experience with creative/fiction writing? Did you look for any advice from other writers/books? Thank you!!!
