What made you want to have your stories featuring characters that are experiencing such difficulties?

Lurlene McDaniel Watching my son grow up with Type 1 diabetes let me see how hard it was to be "different" when he wanted to be "normal" No twice daily shots, food limitations, threats of dibilitating high or low blood glucose levels---all thing that make diabetics different from their peers. As a writer, I wanted to showcase the trauma of illness in a kid/teen's life, so I began the journey to tell stories of liiving with life threatening illnesses.
