Started with your guide to the Regency, and was delighted to find that there are three more to read. Can't wait! I'm trying to do some research on gentlemen's leisure pursuits from the Regency (fox hunting, fishing, and shooting), and wonder if you might have a recommendation of a modern book written as a history of that, or sources of the time that would give more insight into how it was gone about, etc.?

Hi Jennie, thanks for your kind comment. I'm afraid I don't have any recommendations for a book covering that subject. Covering so much English history, I would never stop reading and never start writing if I delved into all the specialist secondary works there are connected to all the subjects I touch upon in the four TTGs. I work primarily by focusing on primary sources and only going to secondary sources where I need the expert advice in order to gain an overview. You may have noted that I focused specifically on a few key Regency sportsmen, such as Osbaldeston and Mytton, and for them I went to the autobiography of O and the book by Nimrod on M. Similarly for shooting and pedestrianism, I used contemporary works. So, I would be misleading you if I were to recommend any particular modern book on the subject. Sorry! All the best, Ian

In your biography of Edward III, you mention Edith de Willesford, the mother of Roger of Clarendon, an illegitimate son of the Black Prince. You identify her as a 'lady of Clarendon'. Might you clarify? In my research, little is known about her although a recent biography of Joan of Kent, by Anthony Goodman, states she was one of Philippa's ladies in waiting. Thank you.

I've just started reading the TTG books (fascinating beyond measure, could say a lot more, but really would need the space of a couple of volumes for synonyms), but are there any plans for post-Regency guides? Victorian, etc.... By no means to rush anything (as the last one only came out last autumn, but I am a bit curious... Thank you so much for the excellent pieces of literature!
