I left the characters where they were at the end of the trilogy because that was the most meaningful place to leave them. It's an origin story, like I've said, so I intentionally left their futures open as their new lives are just beginning. If I wrote a "10 years later" epilogue, it would no longer be an origin story, it would be an ending.
