Maryanne asked:

Does this book get any better? I read The Guest List and couldn't put it down so I was eager for this one to come out. Over a hundred pages into it, I have to force myself to pick it up.

bookster sure does not get any better. Cannot believe I read thru the whole thing.
Joni Greenwell Bycroft No - It's irritating from beginning to end. I stuck with it to see if it would get better, but it didn't. Will not recommend.
Mark Really surprised at all of the negative reviews. I enjoyed the book immensely. I thought the premise was engaging as were the gradual reveals of the characters. People that didn't finish the book or gave up should have persevered in my opinion. But I'm sure authors are used to vastly different ways their books are reviewed.
Susan Mock This is so weird. I am enjoying this book more than the other 2. I guess we all can’t like the same books, the same way. I almost didn’t want to read this because I thought the other 2 were just okay.
Liz Butterfield I agree with you 100%. Disappointed after having read her previous books. Found this one very slow but stuck with it in the hope that it would get better. Sadly, it really didn’t.
Marilyn Russell One of the best books I have read this year. I loved the character development and the plot twists/
Tricia I got on here just for the comments, to see if I was the only one that wasn't understanding the hype. This book is a hot commodity at my local library; I had it on hold twice and lost it because I didn't pick it up in time. Then, a few days ago when I went to check out another book, it had come in the drop box and the librarian offered it to me- for a special 7 days only checkout. He said "it's serendipity!" And I said "Great, maybe this book will change my life lol". Well, total meh so far. Not a fan.
Carol 5 star read for me and I liked it better than her other 2. Everyone has a motive to do the crime.
Podenca I abandoned book when I found the main reveal so amazingly preposterous like a Tolouse Lautrec fever dream of the 1860s -I mean really in this day and age - blackmail for a secret which would have been impossible to keep hidden.
Loved "The Hunting Party" struggled with "The Guest List" as suspension of disbelief became wearysome... so my advice cut and run as it is a bit of an identikit Frankenstein of a thriller naive and obsolete in modern day times.
Traci Warner I agree, this one was hard to get through. It never really picked up and is my least favorite Lucy Foley book.
Nadine It gets worse. It is a poorly written book that drags on and on and is highly repetitive.
Liz No. I don't know why I even bothered finishing it. Preposterous and boring read.
Glenn It gets worse. It's a snooze fest. I dnf'd at 72%. Surprised I lasted that long.
Celia Ridley I had to force myself to finish it. It finally picked up pace in the last 1/4 of the story.
Debbie Awful. I also had to force myself to finish it before my digital loan was up. Bleh!
Sidna Wow! I am astonished at the responses. This is the first book I have read by Lucy Foley and I could barely put it down. It was recommended by a friend in my book club and I loved it. I am definitely going to look for her other books!
Cathy I found it very slow and repetitive in the end . . . kind of "get on with the story."
Shannon Fujimura Unfortunately...no. Was equally disappointed...
Mary Clarke It's torture so far ...
Jimmie I am having a hard time getting through it.
Neese Al I am reading these comments with interest. I find I have very little patience with "tedious" writing in general as there is a lot of sloppy, lazy writing out there. I found this book one of the best audio books I have listened to in months. (I read non fiction all day long so enjoy my fiction on morning runs and while commuting) I have been listening to a number of books from France and wasn't expecting anything great from this but truly enjoyed it. I have listened to a few of her books previously and enjoyed this book more than the others.
Joseph I always picture a writer slaving away in solitude, somewhere in a garret.
Yet, according to the "Acknowledgements," Ms. Foley thanks about fifty (!) helpers, some major, some minor.
Wah???
Meg I found it hard to get into at the beginning, but then once it picked up, I was hooked! I know not everyone had the same experience, but I found the middle/end to be a total redemption for the slow beginning.
Kaitlyn I stopped 3/4 of the way through and Googled the ending. I could not handle the dragging pace.
Frank H. No, it does not get better. Rating C+
Marie North I also did NOT finish this book. I have to be drawn in by the writing and the characterizations, this book had neither.
Jan No, I don't think it gets any better.

Kari (Lit Society Podcast) You finished The Guest List?!?! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Colleen Anne I had the same problem. After a few failed attempts, I eventually decided to finish it because I'm OCD about that. But by the end of it, felt it was her best ever, and a very good book!
Wendy I’m about 1/2 way through and still intrigued.
Paula I found the first 100 pages slow and then it picked up. But I'm often that way with books. If it hadn't picked up I would have left it.
Melissa The book is pretty slow. The ending was good though, and for that alone, I was glad I stuck it out.
Sharon I was hooked and excited in the beginning, now I'm on pg 125 and skimming to get it over with.
Anita Dutrow I really liked this book! If you didn’t read to the end you are missing the whole story! I really disliked the Guest List, so I almost didn’t read this one, but so glad I did!
Natalie No, it doesn't get any better. I enjoyed The Guest List but this was not nearly as good.
Marissa Janeen No, it does not get better. I finished it only because I listened to the end on audiobook on a long drive.
Stacey Kelm It's my first Lucy Foley book and I enjoyed it, especially the ending. In my opinion, it certainly gets better as you read!
