audrey sherman asked April Henry:

I realize this is a personal question, and it is completely fine if you don't feel comfortable answering, but about how much profit do you make writing books? Is it as much as you thought it was going to be and are you happy with the amount?

April Henry Well, generally at first you don't make much money. That's why I always say people should go to college and major in something they enjoy - doesn't have to be writing - because you will probably need to have a day job, at least for a while.

Over time, though, the more books you have out, the more money you make. I now make more money than I did when I worked at a senior writer for Kaiser Permanente. You have a lot of flexibility, but no benefits. For me, the flexibility is worth funding my own insurance, vacation days and retirement plan.
