I really appreciated the strong and well drawn roles for women in your book, which is something that is often lacking in hard scifi. Was this a conscious decision on your part or have we just progressed far enough as a society that we can take it as given? ;-) Thanks very much, loved the book!

Andy Weir I didn't go out of my way to add women. I just sort of imagine characters when I need them. Sometimes they're men, sometimes they're women. I wish I had a better answer, but it basically comes down to whim. I thought "What would the mission commander be like" and I imagined Commander Lewis.
