The edition that I read had an after word by Harry Binder in which, Binder shows from letters that Crane wrote after the book was published, that the publisher altered the book so much as to make the entire story, totally different. Binder especially focuses on the last 4 paragraphs of the book that show the moral of the story. Am curious if any other readers share Binder's views as his theory is somewhat suspect?
