Great question. Part of the answer has to do with our standard human hatred for things we don't fully understand and with the desire to demonize people who are unlike us. Witness the witch trials in Europe and America, for instance. More specific to the world of the books, however, people on the continents of Vash and Eridroa remember the age of the Atmani, the immortal Leach Lords who ruled over a golden age, then went made and plunged the world into generations of chaos, war, and destruction. The Atmani give the people a concrete historical precedent on which to hang their prejudice.

One of the reason I love your books is your very broad vocabulary. Every novel has had a word or two where I am amazed to see the word in writing and the use of it was absolutely perfect. I've seen you ask on twitter "Does this word fit, etc..." So I'm asking two things I guess; is your vocabulary that robust from your educational background, dictionary look up, and twitter inquiries? second question next...

Amazon just cancelled my Kindle pre-order for The Last Mortal Bond. Does your publisher hate me specifically or people in my geographic region generally? :P And is there still a chance that we'll get the paper book (in 2018 or whenever the carrier pigeons finally make it here)?
