I actually have an answer to this!
I spent much of my youth kind of being a f***-up. Toxic relationships, poor decision-making, drugs, booze, expulsion—I was on the fast-track to living a depressing and unfulfilling life full of strife.
Then one day, things just...changed.
Okay, okay. It wasn't just overnight. I took A LOT of effort on my part, and some cosmic intervention, but I went from being seconds away from dropping out of high school my junior year, to suddenly being enrolled in college classes and thriving!
I'm a happy and healthy mom of a beautiful, intellignet toddler, I have my Master's degree in Social Work now, and I'm living my dream of being a published author.
And here's the mystery: how the hell did I get here? 😂
One of the first books I was going to write was actually a science fiction "memoir" about the different lives I could've led had I just made slightly different decisions.
If I would've stayed involved in basketball, would I have ever played professionally?
If I had stayed involved in drugs and alcohol, would I have wound up homeless or incarcerated?
If I had pursued higher ed, would I have found true happiness (the answer to that mystery has already been answered of course, but at the time I was plotting this book out, it hadn't!)
That book became too difficult to write though, too personal, and I had to table it, but I believe many of my books try tackling these questions anyways, or at least the question of how adversity changes someone, and how we can either succumb or rise above it.
