Goodreads asked K.B. Pellegrino:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

K.B. Pellegrino I was born one year less a day after my sister who died at three months old. My mom was in deep grief. The grief showed in many ways: she did not shop for my clothes. May dad did. I am the middle child of five children who lived. I have an older sister who was much like my mother. I admired my mother but could not seem to please her despite my successes. A story lived by others and each of us addressed the loss in different ways. I loved my mother but had to settle for last in her affections. My parents celebrated my birthday for sixteen years on my dead sister's birthday. When I realized I had the wrong birthday and complained, I was said to be too dramatic over a small mistake. Grief denied is dangerous.
